John "the Axe" Whyman - Guitar & backing vocals

John was affectionately known as "The Axe" in the early days. He spent his formative years playing in bedroom bands, but following disillusionment with the industry he hung up his guitar and set out on a normal career. Following disillusionment with being normal, The Axe is back! He's even got a T-shirt to prove it!

John maintains the band blog, which you can read here.

Gear

  • Tokai ALS 80, christened "Lola". Better than any comparable Gibson that John has played. Fantastic sustain!
  • Antoria Les Paul Custom 1976, named "Veronica"
  • Fender Telecaster, named "Violet"
  • Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 50 Watt Head with a 425A cabinet (4x12 Celestions). Named Pammy, cos the top half is as gorgeous as the bottom. Still not needed to turn it up to 11!
  • Boss Chorus, Delay, Phase Shifter pedals
  • Loads of plectrums, which John generously loans to Al Lowe, Al Wood and Nick when there is a need
  • Suzuki accoustic "Betty". She's fun to play when there's nothing else available. Any port in a storm
